All classes

August 2009 Survey of litter in the playground. If litter has reduced. Every class has a team of litter monitors who take their turn to collect playground litter.  This will be an ongoing action.
Enter the Highland Council litter competition. Whole School January – June 2009 This will be monitored by the Highland Council. If our litter dropping has reduced. Litter had reduced considerably but another school showed greater improvement.

Waste Minimisation

To get more recycling bins for the new classrooms. Miss Dunbar August 2008   If all classrooms have recycling bins. All classes now have bins for recycling
Recycle waste paper. P4 – Daily September 2008 – onwards Daily collections of waste paper. If normal class bins rubbish has reduced and paper is recycled by HC All classes have paper bins emptied daily and paper recycled by HC.

Measure the electricity – chart regularly

Computers not on when not in use Classes have appointed energy monitors.  Projector bulbs are bought less often.  Powerdown plugs are used in some classes.
Use rechargeable batteries Whole school By June 2010   Throw away batteries no longer purchased and batteries charged regularly. More rechargeable batteries purchased and battery chargers.
Use wind power to give us electricity Eco committee

Purchase energy saving light bulbs Eco Committee By December 2009 Letter written to Morrisons Energy saving bulbs are used. Phoned Morrisons – the strip lights (classrooms) are low voltage and the spotlights (corridor and foyer) are LED energy saving bulbs.
To check if the taps are turned fully off. All staff and pupils On-going   Taps are not left running. Bathroom taps switch off automatically and class taps are off when not in use.
A sign on each computer to remind us to turn them off. Ask Michael Davidson (ICT) By December 2009   Fewer computers are left on. Each computer would need to be done individually.  ICT team will be in to do a refresh in Spring so will do the screen saver then.

Transport

Parents to be trained in cycling proficiency. Mr MacDonald Term 1   Parents are trained. Parents assisted the training of P7 pupils in cycling proficiency.
Posters to encourage other methods of transportation to school instead of cars. Eco committee By spring 2010 Monitor on street parking at peak times (drop off and pick up) Posters around school and fewer cars in street. JRSO’s have monitored the school car park.  This has discouraged parents from parking in and near to the school.
Community Police in to speak at Assembly Mrs Gilroy By spring 2010   Police spoke at assembly Community Police have spoken to the parent council.

Water

Biodiversity
