The Constitution

Name of the organisation

The organisation will be referred to as the Inshes Primary School Eco Committee.

Aims of the organisation

  • To engage the school community in sustainable education.
  • To work in partnerships with the wider community.
  • To raise awareness of issues relating to the environment and discussion of ways to address these.
  • To prepare an action plan of activities to focus learning and development needs within the school.

Membership

Applications for membership will be open to all pupils at the start of each session, with at least one pupil from each class being chosen for the committee.  Pupils will be elected by their classmates after giving an election speech.  The current P6 pupils will stay on for the following year (P7) to ensure continuity.

School staff will have a voluntary representative on the committee who will attend meetings and feed back to the wider staff.

Parent members will volunteer themselves and will be called on to attend at least one meeting a term.

Meetings

General meetings will be held fortnightly with all committee members attending.  At the start of the new session P3-7 will be present at meetings with P1-2 joining in term 2, allowing the younger pupils to build relationships within their own classes first.  Parents will attend at least once a term.

Committee

The committee will elect a chairperson, who will run the meetings, a vice chair who will support the chair and stand in when necessary.  Also elected will be a secretary who will keep a record of the meetings and any follow up actions, and a treasurer who will be responsible for the money.  The rest of the committee will be made up of class representatives.

Finance

The committee will fundraise throughout the school session.  Grants and sponsorship will be applied for as and when it is required.

Funding will be kept safe in the school account with a separate column given aside to the eco committee to ensure that funds are kept separate.

Amendments to the constitution

If amendments are to be made to the constitution then at least two thirds of the committee will be present at a special meeting.  Changes will be voted on and motions carried when a majority vote of at least 75% is achieved.

Dissolution of the organisation

If for some reason the committee no longer sees it fit to continue then an EGM will be held to ensure that all members agree.  If there are any monies in the eco account, then money will be awarded to the school for use in sustainable education work.
